Task Five AS2 - Finished Ident

Task Four AS2 - Be able to produce a television ident to a brief

How I made my ident was by coming up with three different ideas and then picking the one I liked the most. Once I have picked what I wanted to do for my Ident I began making it out of playdoh and used colour paper. I then took the pictures that I needed. Once I got all of my pictures I uploaded them onto the computer and put them onto premiere pro.

Once I had done that, I began to edit the clips together and cutting away the parts that were not needed so that the ident would not be as long as it is meant to be.

I then changed the timing on the ident so that when the ident plays, it is fast and that plays in time with the music.

Aftert I had done this I played it though to make sure there was no mistakes made when I took pictures. When I was happy with how the ident looked like, I was ready to get it up on my blog.

I then exported it onto Youtube so that way I can get my ident onto my blog.

Task Three AS2 - Pre-production Planning

Here is my Pre-Production planning.

The first thing that i have done is the story board for my finally Ident idea.

Proposal
Prepared by
Shauna Marks.

The ident I will be creating will be for the children’s TV channel called Cbeebies. This ident is to be played from the morning when the channel turns on to about 6pm before the channel starts to show the night time idents. This ident is for children 6 years and younger.
What I am going to do for this Ident is make shapes and have them moving around the screen then move into a line. When That is done you will see the shapes start to turn into letters that will spell out the name of the channel. You will then get the little dot for the ‘I’ move onto the screen the move to be placed on the pace that it is meant to be.
I think this is a good idea for an ident for the cbeebies channel because I think that it will help children learn. By having the ident spell out the name of the channel, it helps kids learn how to spell and teaches them how to spell out the name of the channel.

Task two AS2 - Designing the Suite

I have thought of three different Idents to do for the children's channel Cbeebies. I have created A normal one that can be shown in the day time. A night time one that will be shown at night before the channel shuts down for the night and the children have gone to sleep. Also I created a season one that would be shown at a certain season of the year. For my season Ident, I chose to do Christmas.

This is the idea I have come up with for the normal Ident. This Ident will be played in the day time on the Cbeebies channel:

What I am going to do with this ident is start off with coloured paper and colourful shapes, this makes the ident eye catching to the children that are looking at it. I am then going to move around on the page and then moving into a line. Once that is done, I will start moulding the shapes into the letters that will then become the name of the channel that the ident has been made for. Once that is done I will slowly move the dot of the 'I' onto the page and move it to where it is meant to be. I will be using the cebeebies music in the background of the ident.

This is my idea for the Ident for night time on the cbeebies channel:

What I am going to do for the night time ident is have a bed and the letters lined up and have them jump on the bed one by one so that when they are all on the bed the all spell out Cbeebies then make small and big 'Z' so it looks like all the letters are sleeping. After, I will a small sign saying 'good night' and what time the channel will be turned back on come up on the screen to let the children need to go to bed and it lets the parents know that the cannel is turning off and will be back up at 7am the next morning. I will then have the cebeebies night music playing in the back ground.

This is my idea for a season ident for the cebeebies channel. The season I chose was Christmas:

What I have thought of with this ident is to start it off with two Christmas trees. After that I will have it start to snow and have it set. After a couple of seconds, I will then have the letters fall with one by one with the snow and have them sit on the snow that have already landed, creating the channels logo. Once that has happened I have decided that the snow will continue to fall. I will you a Christmas theme song in the background of the ident.

Task one AS2 - Ideas Generation

Here is a brain storm I have come up with to help me get my ideas for my ident for cebeebies.

As you can see, I have come up with a few idea's that I think will go really well with the ident for the channel. Once I have done this I went on and picked three ideas that I think will be a good ident for a children's channel. The three ideas I ended up choosing is holiday (which is Christmas), bedtime (will be played before the channel shuts down for the night) and one idea that can be used in the day (everyday).

I chose theses three ideas because I think they would be good for the channel.

I picked a Christmas one because very year channels need a Christmas ident because it gives the channel a Christmas feel and gets the children more excited for Christmas.

I then chose a bedtime Ident because it will help parents and the child learn that they need to go to bed at this time so they can get up in the morning and not be in a bad mood because they didn't get enough sleep.

I have also used a daily ident that can be good to help educate the children a bit before the show that want comes on.

Task Three - The Design of a Suite of Televison Idents

What is a suite of Idents?

When Television channels design a Ident, They don't just make one for that channel. Television channels will make around several different idents that are all have a similar theme that will go and link them all together. Having more then just one Ident is a lot better for the channel because that way they can use them to Identify who the movie or shows that play on that certain channel is really trying to aim it at. Idents also help to create or maintain the brands Identity.

This can be seen with BBC and their 'circle Idents:

Purpose of The Suite: Time and Space

A suite of indents help to ensure that the right type of ident is meant to play next to the right type of content. The different times of the day might require an ident with the right tone for the time it is. The   programme content might need a ident that matches the tone of that programme. Also the suite of indents allows the channel to always appeal to the right target audience.

This can be seen with the following Ident pictures:

With this Ident for Channel 4, you can tell that it is for the evening time because of the way that you can see the sun seeing in the background and all the lights turning on. This ident will probably go on before an evening show that the channel decided belonged I the evening for the older audience to enjoy.

When it is christmas time, there are always new idents out for the channels so that it gives the feel of christmas to everyone watching the channels.

This can be seen with this ident for BBC at christmas. This ident would be played when there was going to be a movie or a TV show for children or for the whole family to enjoy together at this time of the year. It gives you the idea the movie or the show is fit for everyone and not for a certain audience.

Task Two - The Limitations of the Television Ident

I am going to be explaining why the following can be considered a limitation to the design of an ident.

Typography

By using typography in an ident, you can tell which ident belongs to which channel. Channels tend to use different typography so the channels all look different because if they all look the same then it will be confusing to tell which channel is which. Typography also gives the channels and their idents a identity so that as soon as you look at it, you know for sure which channel is which. If channels all used the same typography, it would be hard to tell all the channels apart

As you can see from the channels on this on this picture, none of the cannels actually look alike. The typography is different on each of the channels. When you look at channels such as BBC channels, you can see that they are run be the same company so they all have BBC in capital letters, but, BBC one and three are in non capital letters where as BBC two, four and the new are in capitals so people know that they are still different channels and not the same so this could be a bit of a problem because people can the channels mixed up a bit.

Colour
By using colour for idents, it helps the view tell which channel is which. Colours that are for the channel will normally be used in the idents to match the colour of the channels logo. the colour logo is always used in the idents so the audience defiantly know which ident belongs to which channel. If all the channels used the same colour, the Viewers would find it hard to tell them all apart. It can be a problem because their are a few channels that do use the same colours as other channels.

An example of this can be seen in the idents that are used for the channel BBC one. They use the colour red in their idents so that the audience can recognise them because BBC one are known for using the colour red on their channel and in their logo.
Aspect-ratio
All of the high definition idents must be delivered in 16:9 widescreen. This is so that the active picture must fill the 16:9 screen vertically and horizontally without geometric distortion.

'Cinemascope Ratio' letterbox

This is for delivery to the dedicated movie channels or at the discretion of the border-caster, meaning that the programmes may be delivered with an active picture in the cinema ratio of 2.35;1 (21.9) or maybe in 1.85:1, centred vertically between the black bars in a 16:9 frame, filling the width of the actual frame along with no geometric distortion.

Floating Images

This is short sequences of images surrounding the black boards (floating images) may be used for artistic effects. However, that widescreen consumer TV sets operating in auto zoom or auto mode often interpret large black boarders at the top and the bottom of the screen as letterbox so they are likely to enlarge the picture. The resulting zoom can be annoying to the viewers and can undermine the artistic intent. If this is used, the black space around floating images must be consistent across sequences of images.

'Pillarboxed' HD Material

Some "Pillar-boxed" can be acceptable at the border-caster where it has been acquired on a medium that has the capability to be transferred to a legitimate HD resolution. Here is an example, 35mm shot using 4 perf at an aspect ratio narrower than 16:9. The pictures must be centrally framed in a 16:9 raster with no geometric distortion.

Duration

The reason people create Idents that last 3 minutes is so if a channel decide that a show or a film maybe not be on time to show, channels need to make sure that they stick to the time scale that they have so if the channel is a bit late on their showing times, they can put an ident that they can keep up the time scale they already plained and it doesn't get to messed up because of the delay.

The reason for people to not create an ident that only last 30 seconds is because the ident will be pointless to the channel it is being used for. An ident is used as a little time table to let the viewers what is on the channel that day. If the ident is only 30 seconds it won't give the viewers much of an idea what is going on and it won't be enough time to let the viewers know what is coming on and it isn't enough time to let them know what is going to be on once the show or film the viewer wants to see has ended.
